A triangular, thick, medium graphite pencil (HB) for your child’s first pencil when learning handwriting or for anyone who prefers a better grip and less hand fatigue.
WHY WE LOVE THESE PENCILS
The thick size makes it easier to hold. The triangular size encourages a proper tripod grip for children still learning to write, and may help any person, old or young or in between, who has difficulty with joint pain or hand fatigue while holding a pencil. A plus to the triangular shape is that it doesn’t roll off the table. The thick lead is break resistant and sharpens to a nice point with our pencil sharpeners made for this size pencil.

SUPER FERBY VERSUS FERBY
A Super Ferby and a Ferby are the same thickness and same triangular shape, but a Super Ferby is longer than a Ferby. These pencils are Super Ferby.
ARE YOU A WALDORFISH STUDENT?
The Waldorfish Geometry and Form Drawing instructor recommends thicker barreled pencils like these over thinner, regular sized pencils. The thicker leads and barrels are break resistant and last longer between sharpening. We also have a similar pencil under the Stockmar brand that is a Grade B, in case you prefer that over this one (which is a grade HB). The Stockmar version is also a hexagonal barrel versus this one being a triangular barrel, which is really personal preference.

Abbreviations:
- B = Black, softest
- HB= Hard Black, middle of the road
- F = Firm, hardest
Numbers: Degree of Softness (ie: 2 is softer than 6)
Pencil “lead”: a mixture of graphite and clay (ie: no lead in the “lead”)
