The pencils’ qualities lies in the grades of hardness and high breaking strength. They are perfect for the high demands of graphic design and architecture, as well as the higher pressure placed on pencils by children.
WHAT DO THE NUMBERS AND LETTERS MEAN ON A PENCIL
- The leads in this pencil set come in a range of the following grades: 4H 3H 2H H F HB B 2B 3B 4B 5B 6B.
- The hard leads are H + F grade and are used for precision drawing like geometrical form drawing.
- The higher the number with the H, the harder the lead.
- Normal writing pencils are the HB grade.
- B and 2B can also be used for handwriting.
- The soft leads are B grade and are ideal for drawing, shading and black and white sketching.
- The higher the number with the B, the softer and darker the lead.
IS YOUR CHILD ENROLLED IN A WALDORF SCHOOL
In a Waldorf curriculum, these types of pencils tend to be used in the 6th grade and above, though some may start as low as 4th or 5th grade.
