PRETEND PLAY
In Waldorf preschools and kindergartens, you‘LL often find child-sized brooms in the pretend play house section or set up near where the teachers sweep. Children in the preschool and kindergarten years love to pretend and also love to just be near their grown-ups as they play, often mimicking their actions, such as vacuuming, sweeping, cooking and doing laundry.
What we see as a house chore, young children still see as a fun pretend play game.

These gorgeous, well-made, heirloom-quality brooms for kids have been handcrafted the same way as a traditional, regular-sized broom. These gorgeous brooms have been made through more than four generations by a family of artisans in Pennsylvania. That’s well over 100 years! They even still use the same equipment and techniques as broom-makers of long ago, attaching beautiful natural and rainbow broom corn to a wooden handle and tying the broom corn with gorgeous knot work patterns.
This truly is an age-old craft being kept alive by skilled crafters. This broom is so pretty and well-made, it can be passed down to future generations or even used as a unique and pretty decor piece once your child outgrows pretend play. (Great size as a hearth, tent or camper broom, too.) Don’t you wish they’d hang on to that pretend play even longer. The ages between 2 to 7 years is such a special, magical time for kids!
